About this qualification

What Is the IIBA-AAC?

The IIBA’s certification for business analysis in an agile context — proving you can apply BA thinking across the agile horizons to deliver value continuously.

The qualification explained

The IIBA Agile Analysis Certification (AAC) is an IIBA certification, based on the Agile Extension to the BABOK Guide, that covers how business analysis is applied in an agile context. It spans the three agile horizons — strategy, initiative and delivery — alongside the agile mindset, principles and techniques.

The course builds the practical skills of agile business analysis: thinking and working with an agile mindset, applying agile principles to BA work, planning and prioritising across the strategy and initiative horizons, and supporting continuous delivery of value at the delivery horizon using the right agile techniques.

There are no formal prerequisites, though business analysis or agile experience is recommended. The IIBA-AAC is designed for practitioners who already work in — or are moving into — agile environments and want a recognised credential for agile business analysis.

In practice

Agile Analysis in the Real World

The same agile analysis thinking underpins delivery across every kind of organisation. See how the three horizons apply in practice.

Strategy Horizon

Framing the value of a new digital initiative

A leadership team needed to decide where to invest next. Working at the strategy horizon, the business analyst helped define the desired outcomes, clarify measures of success, and connect proposed work back to business goals — so the organisation backed the initiatives most likely to deliver real value.

Agile analysis in action By framing value and outcomes up front, the team focused investment on the highest-value initiatives and could measure whether the work was actually moving the right numbers.

Initiative Horizon

Structuring and prioritising a delivery backlog

An agile team had more ideas than capacity. Working at the initiative horizon, the business analyst helped slice and size the work, prioritise the backlog by value, and manage scope so the team always tackled the most valuable items next — without losing sight of the bigger picture.

Agile analysis in action With a clearly prioritised, well-sliced backlog, the team delivered usable increments sooner and made trade-off decisions based on value rather than guesswork.

Delivery Horizon

Supporting continuous delivery within iterations

A product team needed analysis to keep pace with delivery. Working at the delivery horizon, the business analyst supported analysis within iterations, gathered feedback from each increment, and helped the team adapt — delivering value increment by increment rather than waiting for a big release.

Agile analysis in action By analysing just enough, just in time and feeding learning back into the backlog, the team kept delivering working value every iteration and adapted quickly as needs changed.

I have recently booked the PRINCE2 certification. The process was made extremely easy for me with the help of Lanie, who was the account manager I spoke with. My questions were answered within minutes and the process was sped up thanks to Lanie.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I had a fantastic experience with Career Smarter from start to finish. Before enrolling on the CompTIA A+ course, they took the time to explain everything clearly, including what was included in the package and how the learning would work. I never felt rushed or pressured into making a decision, which I really appreciated.

They also showed me another training package that could be useful if I decide to continue my learning in the future, but there was absolutely no hard sell or constant follow-up. They simply gave me the information and left the decision entirely up to me, which made me feel much more comfortable.

To top it off, they offered me a discount, which was a lovely bonus.

The customer service has been excellent, they're knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely helpful. Based on my experience so far, I would highly recommend Career Smarter to anyone looking to start or develop a career in IT.

Thank you Lanie for top customer service!

I was 'talking' to my Chatgpt initially about where I could study Prince2 certifications with Agile (without the price tags that come with most learning providers) - funnily enough it was Chatgpt that led me to look at Career Smarter. So I went there ... I was able to chat online with Lanie who was very clear, helpful and because I was buying several certification courses, she helped me with a reasonable price for the whole lot. I really recommend this company and feel like there will be lots of help and support and I can always contact Lanie for any issues I'm having - I feel confident she will be resolving them!
