AZ-800 / AZ-801 — Windows Server Hybrid Administrator

It's Microsoft's associate-level certification for administrators who run Windows Server across on-premises and hybrid environments — covering identity, storage, compute, networking, security, high availability and migration. It's earned by passing two exams, AZ-800 and AZ-801.

Two. To earn the certification you must pass both AZ-800 (Administering Windows Server Hybrid Core Infrastructure) and AZ-801 (Configuring Windows Server Hybrid Advanced Services). AZ-800 covers core hybrid infrastructure and AZ-801 covers advanced hybrid services. It's usual to sit AZ-800 first, then AZ-801. This course prepares you for both.

Not by default — the exams are an optional add-on covering both tests. You book and sit each exam through Pearson VUE, online with a proctor or at a test centre.

Windows Server administrators, sysadmins managing hybrid environments, IT infrastructure engineers, on-prem admins moving to hybrid or Azure, datacentre administrators, and anyone targeting senior infrastructure roles. Microsoft recommends experience administering Windows Server.

It varies — there's a fair amount of ground to cover across two exams, and most learners work through it over a few months alongside their job. There's no time limit: you have 12 months' access, so you can study both AZ-800 and AZ-801 at whatever pace suits you.
