CompTIA Linux+

CompTIA Linux+ proves you can administer, secure, automate and troubleshoot Linux systems — the operating system behind most servers, the cloud and DevOps. It’s vendor-neutral, so the skills apply everywhere Linux runs. No experience required: CompTIA recommends around 12 months of hands-on Linux experience, but there’s no formal prerequisite.

About this certification

What Is CompTIA Linux+?

The vendor-neutral, industry-standard certification for administering Linux systems.

The certification explained

CompTIA Linux+ (XK0-005) is the industry-standard, vendor-neutral certification for Linux administration. Built and maintained by CompTIA, a non-profit trade association, it proves core Linux skills that apply across any distribution and any organisation’s systems — not just one vendor’s tools.

It covers the essentials end to end: day-to-day system management; security and hardening; scripting, automation and containers; and troubleshooting when things go wrong. These are the practical skills behind most servers, the cloud and modern DevOps.

Linux+ is widely recognised as the benchmark Linux certification. There are no formal prerequisites — CompTIA recommends around 12 months of hands-on Linux experience, but it’s not required — making it a natural step for anyone moving into Linux administration, cloud or DevOps.

In practice

CompTIA Linux+ in the Real World

Linux runs most of the world’s servers and the cloud. See the kind of work Linux+ trains you for.

Administering Systems

Keeping the servers everyone depends on running

Managing users and permissions, configuring storage and filesystems, installing software, controlling the services that start at boot. Linux+ teaches you to run a Linux system confidently from the command line, day in and day out.

CompTIA Linux+ in action Knowing how users, files, services and storage fit together means you keep systems healthy instead of firefighting.

Securing & Hardening

Locking a system down properly

Tightening permissions, configuring access controls, closing off what isn’t needed. Linux+ teaches the hardening techniques and security best practices that keep Linux systems resilient against attack.

CompTIA Linux+ in action Applying least privilege and sound access controls means a system is secure by design, not as an afterthought.

Scripting & Automation

Letting the machine do the repetitive work

Writing Bash scripts, scheduling jobs with cron, automating routine tasks. Linux+ teaches you to turn manual, repeatable work into reliable automation — the foundation of modern DevOps and infrastructure as code.

CompTIA Linux+ in action A well-written script run on a schedule turns hours of manual effort into something that just happens, reliably.

I was looking for an AgilePM foundation course and found Career Smarter (thorough the Reed website), I requested information and received a prompt and helpful response from Lanie detailing the different options and prices etc. Lanie followed up a few days later but there was no sense of feeling pressured, nor any phone calls, just email and WhatsApp messages, giving me the time to consider the options and compare with others. I’ve now booked my course (which was easy, the website is good) which as it happens is also less expensive than other offers, and I’m encouraged by the other very positive reviews of this company.
Thank you Lanie, we haven’t spoken yet but I haven’t forgotten that you are on hand if I need further assistance.
