About this qualification

What Is the BCS Practitioner Certificate in Modelling Business Processes?

A practical, in-depth grounding in modelling how an organisation works — and a practitioner module of the BCS International Diploma.

The qualification explained

The BCS Practitioner Certificate in Modelling Business Processes is a practitioner-level qualification certified by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. It teaches you to model how an organisation actually works — so you can see where processes break down and design better ones.

You’ll model processes at three levels — the whole enterprise, the event-driven process, and the individual task — using organisational models and techniques like structured English. You’ll also learn to measure process performance and evaluate processes for improvement.

It’s a practitioner module of the BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis. There’s no formal prerequisite, though some practical BA experience helps and the Foundation Certificate is a useful starting point.

In practice

Business Process Modelling in Australia

You can’t improve a process you can’t see. See how modelling makes the work visible — and better.

Mapping the Process

Making an invisible process visible

No one could explain end to end how an order actually got fulfilled — each team only saw their own bit. Modelling it at the process level, then drilling into the tasks, laid the whole flow out on one page for the first time.

Process modelling in action Seeing the full event-response model made the duplicated steps and silent hand-offs impossible to ignore.

Finding the Gaps

Measuring where a process really loses time

A complaints process “felt slow” but no one knew where. Adding performance measures to the model showed 80% of the elapsed time was spent waiting between two tasks, not on the work itself.

Process modelling in action Measuring the model — not opinions — pinpointed exactly where to focus the improvement effort.

Implementing Change

Designing a ‘to-be’ process people actually adopt

A redesigned process looked great on paper, but earlier attempts had never stuck. Modelling the ‘to-be’ clearly and planning the implementation meant the new way of working was understood and embedded, not just announced.

Process modelling in action A clear to-be model gave everyone the same picture of the new process — so this time it actually held.

I was looking for an AgilePM foundation course and found Career Smarter (thorough the Reed website), I requested information and received a prompt and helpful response from Lanie detailing the different options and prices etc. Lanie followed up a few days later but there was no sense of feeling pressured, nor any phone calls, just email and WhatsApp messages, giving me the time to consider the options and compare with others. I’ve now booked my course (which was easy, the website is good) which as it happens is also less expensive than other offers, and I’m encouraged by the other very positive reviews of this company.
Thank you Lanie, we haven’t spoken yet but I haven’t forgotten that you are on hand if I need further assistance.
